Star skater Wu Dajing won China's first gold medal at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games by breaking world record in short track men's 500m on Thursday.

2月22日，中国著名选手武大靖在短道速滑男子500米决赛中打破世界纪录，为中国赢得平昌冬奥会首枚金牌。

In the sprint race, world No. 1 Wu dominated the whole race and never looked back, breaking world record twice in the quarterfinals and final. The 23-year-old's winning time is 39.584 seconds, 0.216 faster than the former record he set earlier in the quarterfinals.

Peter Wang, 15, born in Brooklyn, New York, and the son of Chinese parents, was one of 17 people – including 14 students – shot dead by former pupil Nikolas Cruz at a high school in the city of Parkland on Wednesday.

Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Feb. 16 this year. Hundreds of millions of Chinese returned to their hometown for family gatherings or travelled around the country, putting huge pressure on the transport system.

About 2.98 billion trips are made during the 2018 Spring Festival travel rush between Feb. 1 and March 12.

To enhance railway transport capability, an additional 1,152 and 1,330 train services will be scheduled before and after the festival, respectively, on the basis of 3,819 operating trains every day.

Russian passenger plane crashes

A Russian passenger plane crashed shortly after leaving a Moscow airport Sunday, killing all 71 people on board, Russia's Transport Ministry said.

Flight #6W703, operated by the Russian regional carrier Saratov Airlines, was carrying 65 passengers and six crew members. There were no survivors, Moscow’s regional transportation prosecutor-general confirmed.
